Dancewear

It was dance wear that got me into dressing up in the first place - mum's leotard and tights when i was about 13.
As soon as I could drive I snuck off to a private ballet class - mostly so i could wear a leotard and footless tights - or eventually in my case - I would wear ladies 40denier everyday tights instead.
I was pushing it a bit - and used to go to a private class for a while - and I'm not sure what dear old Margaret must have thought when rather than a T-shirt and black men's dance tights I would wear a cotton Lycra leotard in navy or grey with at first ladies white dance tights, then I moved to white semi opaque m+s ladies ones with it.

My confidence grew - and the girl I used to go out with indulged me with loads of Lycra dance wear which we used to swap and share.
On top of that I would leave my parent's house, change in the car into my dance gear and put some girly things over the top - usually ski-pants and bat wing jumper.

My true desire was to get away with sheers...which one warm summer's evening after college I tried.

I changed into my sheers and leotard before hand and had the stirrup pants over the top with a jumper after I had got changed in secret and drove to the class studio near where i lived.

I had never been out dressed so femme before and i was a wee bit scared.....

So I meet my girlfriend at her house and she clocks the ski-pants and black sheers immediately and said - ooh are they mine? -
'No - these are my ones....'
'You will be wearing my skirt and heels next' she said with a laugh. (IF only I thought!)

We get to the studio and we go to the changing rooms to take our outdoor gear off and then she sees me in the the black sheers and leotard pulling on my ballet shoes....
'Blimey' she says - 'they are thin tights babe' she said.
'I know,' I responded - 'thought they would be cooler than the thicker ones we had on last week.....'
This week had the pink semi sheer microfibre dance tights that were around then.

And so we went in to the class.

Our teacher used to wear a chiffon dancedress and sheer black tights anyway.
She looked at me and said:
'You both look nice today, careful not to ladder those!' at me with a smile.
And that - was that.
We did the class as normal - danced for an hour.

Emboldened - the next week I tried it with nude ones - plain nude glossy ones.
Again - heart pounding - but this time - just me on my own - as i went twice a week and my girlfriend once.
This time the teacher said:
'Sweetie - why have you decided to wear those tights?'
'I wanted something cooler and was easy to move in', I responded.
'Ok - well if you are happy like that darling - wear them'

And for the remaining classes in the summer - that's what me and the girlfriend turned up in. Either a leotard and sheers or my fave was the shorty one piece unitard with sheer nudes.

Truth be told - the only reason I carried on with it for a while was I could 'get away' with those clothes. I denied myself for ages that i wanted anything else - I just had a thing for dance wear - despite the fact I was curious about how a skirt and heels would feel. (Dare not in those days in case i like it too much!)

It cemented my love of Lycra and dance wear I have to this day. Sneaking off twice a week to get dressed up in tights and a leotard for about three years - only being caught with my stuff once.
(Another story....)
